Being fully sustainable is the goal, but before the majority of us can achieve that goal, we have to take baby steps towards it and make small changes to begin with. Because small changes towards the right direction is better than nothing, right?
Here are a few real-world tips we have put together for you to start living a more eco-friendly life style and be kinder to the environment.
BORROW CLOTHES
Lost are the days when you have your wardrobe full clothes with hangtags and unused. Instead of buying new clothes every time you have an event or special occasion, try asking a friend for the perfect outfit. If you're not into asking your friends for clothes, a few new (and cool) rental shops have appeared in Helsinki with the focus on renting clothes, instead of selling them. This way the garment gets many uses instead of one and stay hanging in your closet.
Check out The Atelje and Clozeta among others.
BUY VINTAGE
Vintage and pre-loved fashion is becoming the new norm. We love the endless possibilities this offers. You can find unique pieces to spice up your wardrobe. There are plenty of beautiful vintage shops and pre-loved shops in Helsinki, and for the ones who don't mind seeing the garment live, there are many apps from which you can find special pieces.
Some of these are Relove, Flea Secondhand, Uff, Tise and Zadaa among maaany others.
OPT FOR A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE (AVOID PACKAGING)
So this is a good one if you haven't yet changed it. Choose reusable cups or bottles for your drinks, instead of buying every time a new one (make sure to check that they are made from recycled materials). Also, when shopping remember to take a reusable grocery bag to avoid using single plastic bags.
