Sustainability and Transparency

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is one of Nuarswim's major values. We aim to provide to our customers a stylish yet environmentally friendly swimwear option. We believe in growing organically and using awareness in decision making from material selection, to how items are produced and how the pieces are being packaged and distributed. We do not mass produce and will always prioritise ethical practices.

All our swimwear is made out of ECONYL ® and Repreve.

These materials are created by collecting plastic waste and fishing nets from the oceans and landfills, and regenerated into ECONYL ® and Repreve products.

The fabrics used in production are all certified recycled and dyes are GOTS certified & OEKO-TEX® approved.

"By 2050, our seas may contain more garbage than fish. 8 million tons of waste end up in our seas every single year. 640K tons of fishing nets are abandoned in the ocean. Less than 1% is recycled."

THE RECYCLING PROCESS

1. RESCUE / The process starts by collecting ghost fishing nets and plastic waste from the oceans and landfills.

2. REGENERATE / Through a regeneration and purification process the nylon waste is recycled back to its original purity.

3. REMAKE / The Econyl regenerated nylon is then processed into textile yarn.

4. REIMAGINE / We then create and produce with this material all the wonderful pieces for you. This nylon has the potential to be recycled infinitively, without ever loosing its quality.

PACKAGING

We use biodegradable, recycled and recyclable packaging.

The suits are packed in a bio-degradable Avani Cassava inner-bag. These bags are biodegradable and compostable in months. At the end of their usage, they can be composted with home composting method and they will become fertilizer for your plant.

We ship our suits in a compostable mailer or brown shipping box which is recyclable and made out of recycled fibers.

ETHICAL PRODUCTION

Transparency is a quality that we value highly. We think it is essential that our customers are informed and included in the processes, research and development of our products.

Our swimwear is designed in Finland and manufactured in Bali, Indonesia. We chose Bali, precisely because of the expertise they have there. The factory we work with invests in the well-being of our employees, every employee has a really good salary and health insurance for them and their family in relation to the standard of living in the country. Employees have a good stay and they also have holidays and weekends off.

"I got to know the factory on-site in Bali, and got to see the whole process from start to finish and in that time I noticed how well the factory works. The factory standards are really high and the workers are really cared for. Based on talking with the workers and asking questions, I was convinced that this is exactly the right thing to do." Antonela Guzman Karjalainen, founder, says.

1 ORDER = 1 TREE PLANTED

We want to improve our sustainable practices. We recognise that there are sections within the supply chain that are difficult to even out. Producing swimwear from recycled and eco-friendly materials is simply not enough. We have partnered up with Ecologi, an environmental organisation to plant one tree for each order placed. We also fund different carbon offset projects each month that have a direct impact on atmospheric CO2 levels, this way we want to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve our goal of becoming a climate- positive brand.
